"description": "<p>The Journalism Studies minor is well suited for students who seek to better understand the role journalism plays in society as well as the forces that shape journalism. A key component of this minor is media literacy, which is the ability to thoughtfully analyze messages disseminated through the news media.</p><h2>Minor Requirements</h2><ul> <li>A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in all courses used to satisfy minor.</li> <li>Grades below a \"C\" (2.0) are not accepted in the minor.</li> <li>At least 12 hours used in the minor must be earned at UCF within the Nicholson School of Communication and Media.</li> </ul><h2>Prerequisite Courses</h2><ul> <li>Students must satisfy each course's prerequisites before enrolling in the class.</li> </ul><h2>Degree Requirements</h2><h3>Required Courses</h3> 3 Total Credits <ul><li>Complete the following: <ul><li>JOU3004 - History of American Journalism (3)</li></ul></li></ul><h3>Restricted Electives</h3> 15 Total Credits <ul><li>Complete all of the following<ul><li>Additional restricted electives can be taken as approved by an Academic Success Coach (ASC) in consultation with Minor's faculty advisor.</li><li>Complete at least 5 of the following: <ul><li>JOU3015 - Principles of Journalism (3)</li><li>JOU3301 - Journalism Readings (3)</li><li>JOU3510 - Magazine Publishing (3)</li><li>JOU4700 - Journalism Ethics (3)</li><li>MMC2004 - Mass Media (3)</li><li>MMC3200 - Mass Communication Law (3)</li><li>MMC4303 - Hispanics in Media in the US (3)</li><li>MMC4300 - International Media (3)</li><li>VIC3001 - Visual Communication (3)</li></ul></li></ul></li></ul><h4>Grand Total Credits: <strong>18</strong></h4> Total Undergraduate Credit Hours Required: 18Other Requirements<ul> <li>Internship, co-op, or independent study credit cannot be used toward the minor without school permission.</li> </ul>",
