"description": "
The Master of Science in Civil Engineering, with an accelerated BSCE-to-MSCE track, is designed for students enrolled in UCF's BS in Civil Engineering program. Up to twelve (12) credit hours of 5000- and 6000-level courses with a grade of "B" (3.0) or better may be counted toward the accelerated BS to MS program. Graduate research in civil engineering highlights the field's broad scope, encompassing the design, construction, and improvement of society's infrastructure.

The program allows highly qualified undergraduate Civil Engineering majors at UCF to start taking graduate-level courses that count toward their master's degree while finishing their bachelor's degree. The key benefit is that these graduate courses replace undergraduate courses, enabling students to complete both degrees faster than those not in the accelerated program.

The MSCE in Civil Engineering, via the accelerated BS to MSCE program, covers topics such as structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering and foundations, transportation planning and operations, traffic engineering, construction engineering, and water resources engineering.

Faculty research areas include geotechnical studies of subsurface conditions, soil testing, "superpave" mix design, intelligent transportation systems, traffic safety, structural dynamics, nonlinear structural analysis, software development, reinforced concrete, construction engineering, hydraulic modeling, coastal ocean modeling, stormwater management, and watershed management. Graduates typically find positions in consulting, construction, and related industries, as well as in city, county, state, and federal government agencies, and academic institutions.

The accelerated MSCE in Construction Engineering requires at least 30 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree, with both thesis and non-thesis options. The thesis track involves 24 credit hours of formal graduate coursework and 6 credit hours of thesis work. The non-thesis track requires 30 hours of coursework and the completion of a culminating experience, which for non-thesis students is submitting a portfolio that meets program requirements. It is highly recommended that part-time students opt for the non-thesis option.

Total Credit Hours Required: 30 Credit Hours Minimum beyond the Bachelor's Degree
",
