    "description": "<p>The Water Resources Engineering Accelerated BS to MS track in the Civil Engineering MS program was created for students enrolled in the BS in Civil Engineering program at UCF.</p><p>Up to twelve (12) credit hours of 5000- and 6000-level courses with a grade of \"B\" (3.0) or better may be counted toward the accelerated BS to MS program.</p><p>Graduate work and research in Water Resources reflect the field's broad nature, encompassing the design, construction, and enhancement of sustainable infrastructure for society. The program's coursework focuses on water resources modeling, hydraulics, and hydrology.</p><p>The program allows highly qualified undergraduate Civil Engineering majors at UCF to begin taking graduate-level courses that will count toward their master's degree while completing their baccalaureate degree. The main feature is that graduate courses replace undergraduate courses, allowing students to complete both degrees in a shorter time than those who don’t qualify for the accelerated program. Up to twelve (12) credit hours of 5000- and 6000-level courses with a grade of \"B\" (3.0) or better may be counted toward the accelerated BS to MS program. </p><p>Water Resource faculty research interests include ecohydraulic and ecohydrologic modeling, groundwater and surface hydrology, sea-level rise and other climate change impact assessments, stormwater management, tide, wind-wave, and hurricane storm-surge modeling, and environmental water resources management. Students completing the program find positions in consulting firms, construction and construction-related industries, in city, county, state, and federal government agencies, and academic institutions.</p><p>The Water Resources Engineering Accelerated BS to MS track in the Civil Engineering MS program is for students in the UCF BS Civil Engineering program. See undergraduate engineering major requirements in the Undergraduate Catalog.</p><p>Both thesis and non-thesis options are available, with each requiring 30 credit hours. The thesis option requires 15 credit hours of required courses, 9 credit hours of elective graduate coursework exclusive of thesis and research, and a thesis (6 credit hours). The nonthesis option requires 15 credit hours of required graduate coursework, 15 credit hours of electives, and submission of an end-of-program portfolio as a culminating experience. Each student must have an individual program of study approved by his/her faculty committee. At least one-half of the required credits must be taken at the 6000 level for the MS degree. It is strongly suggested that part-time students pursue the non-thesis option.
