            "description": "<p><em><strong>This program is accepting applications for Fall 2026.</strong></em></p><p>The Ph.D. program within the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the University of Central Florida provides preeminent doctoral education focused on emerging methods and technologies within and beyond CSD, including: simulation, instrumentation, immersion, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and computational analytics with machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Courses in the program are infused with broad CSD content presented with a focus on emerging methods and technologies, as well as principles of project and business management including proposal development, all as they are applied in CSD. With knowledge and skills in these methodologies, students can use their advanced content knowledge in CSD to maximize innovation, discovery, and translation to practice in the workforce sectors of healthcare, technology, and academia. This advanced content is aimed at making graduates more highly skilled and competitive in academic, industry, and healthcare settings in which employers seek a broader skill set requiring expertise in CSD subdisciplines as well as knowledge and experience in related fields (e.g., health sciences management, data analytics, linguistics, acoustics, engineering).</p><p>A key component of the program is mentored research training from CSD faculty. Students will select potential faculty members that most closely align with their research interests. CSD faculty are active in a wide range of research areas including: AAC, voice, upper airway assessment, communication gestures, aphasia, apraxia of speech, literacy, early intervention, autism, language disorders, voice, aerodigestive systems, motor speech disorders, speech perception, hearing aid signal processing, auditory perception, auditory neuroscience, neuroimaging, tinnitus, hyperacusis, sensory integration, health literacy, as well as aging and cognition as related to communication. Inter-professional education and collaboration are featured in nearly all research programs within the UCF School of CSD.</p><p>The CSD Ph.D. requires a total of 72 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree is required, including 18 credit hours of core and research courses, 9 credits of research electives and 21 credits of content area electives.
