"description": "<p>The Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree program at UCF reflects the very broad nature of the field, which encompasses the design, construction and enhancement of the infrastructure of society. It provides an opportunity to advance your knowledge and specialize in one of four subdisciplines, including structural and geotechnical engineering, transportation systems engineering, water resources engineering and smart cities. Plus,<span> </span><a href=\"https://www.ucf.edu/online/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">civil engineering tracks are available fully online</a>, offering the flexibility and convenience for you to balance work, school and life.</p>\r\n<p>Civil engineering graduates often find positions in consulting firms, construction and construction-related industries, government agencies and academic institutions. Additionally, this program prepares you for professional licensure and certification opportunities to help further your career. Both thesis and nonthesis options are available. </p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https://www.ucf.edu/degree/civil-engineering-ms/smart-cities/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Smart Cities Track</strong></a><br>The Smart Cities track is the first of its kind offered in the nation. Choose this track to explore the areas of smart transportation, smart and resilient infrastructure, and smart and technological advancements in environmental engineering and water resources. </p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https://www.ucf.edu/degree/civil-engineering-ms/structural-and-geotechnical-engineering/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Track</strong></a><br><span>The Structural and Geotechnical Engineering track focuses on the engineering, analysis, design and construction of built infrastructure. The track emphasizes above-ground engineering and below-ground engineering, as well as the interaction between the two systems.</span></p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https://www.ucf.edu/degree/civil-engineering-ms/transportation-systems-engineering/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Transportation Systems Engineering Track</strong></a><br>The Transportation Systems Engineering track focuses on transportation planning and operations, traffic engineering and construction engineering.</p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https://www.ucf.edu/degree/civil-engineering-ms/water-resources-engineering/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Water Resources Engineering Track</strong></a><br>The Water Resources Engineering track focuses on water resources modeling, hydraulics and hydrology.</p>",

"description": "<p>Faculty research interests include geotechnical studies of subsurface conditions, soil testing \"superpave\" mix design, intelligent transportation systems, traffic safety, structural dynamics, nonlinear structural analysis and software development, reinforced concrete, construction engineering, hydraulic modeling, coastal ocean modeling, stormwater management, and watershed management. Students completing the program find positions in consulting firms, construction, and construction-related industries, in city, county, state, and federal government agencies, and academic institutions.</p><p>The MS degree offers both thesis and nonthesis options with each requiring 30 credit hours of acceptable graduate work. The thesis option requires a 6 credit hour thesis project and the nonthesis option requires an additional 6 credit hours of electives and an end-of-program portfolio submission.</p><p>Make sure and contact your track/program’s coordinator early in your graduating semester to find out when the portfolios are to be turned in for evaluation. The Graduate Student Services Coordinator (Arvin Cortez) should be able to tell you who the coordinator is for your degree program if you do not already know.</p><p>Individual, independent research studies may be required in one or more courses. The research study and report will focus on reviewing and analyzing contemporary research in a student's particular specialization within the profession in order to help students acquire knowledge and skills pertaining to research-based best practices in that specialization area. In addition, students may engage in six credit hours of independent study during their studies.</p><p><strong>Total Credit Hours Required: 30 Credit Hours Minimum beyond the Bachelor's Degree</strong></p>",
